1 · Package document set

Every submittal package includes these, in this order.

  • Cover sheet — project, submittal number, spec section(s), date, and the submitting company
  • Transmittal — item list keyed to the schedule, with the reviewer/GC and the type (partial or full)
  • Table of contents / section dividers so the reviewer can navigate
  • Product data — manufacturer cut sheets marked to the exact model, options, and finish being furnished (strike what doesn't apply)
  • Shop drawings for anything fabricated or custom, matched to the drawings and schedules
  • Samples or physical mock-ups where the specification requires visual approval
  • Certifications & test reports the spec calls up (listings, ratings, compliance letters)
  • O&M data and warranties where required at this stage
  • Substitution request forms for any product not on the approved-manufacturer list

2 · Glazing scope — by spec section

Pull a submittal for each section in your scope; confirm the spec's Part 1 list.

  • Shop drawings: elevations keyed to the architectural drawings, plan and head/jamb/sill sections, anchorage details, and expansion provisions
  • Framing system product data: system series, depths, thermal break, and finish
  • Glass makeup for every glazing type: overall IGU construction (e.g., 1" IGU — 1/4" low-e over 1/2" argon over 1/4"), heat treatment, and edge/spacer details
  • Performance data: U-factor, SHGC, VT per NFRC, plus STC/OITC where acoustics are specified
  • Structural calculations, sealed by a licensed engineer, where the spec delegates curtain wall design
  • Finish samples: anodized or painted aluminum color chips, and glass samples where specified
  • Sealants and gaskets with compatibility and adhesion data
  • Hardware and entrance door data where doors are in your scope

3 · Before you submit — common rejection reasons to rule out

Reviewers flag these first. Verify each is not an issue before you send.

  • U-factor or SHGC worse than the energy-code values the design was permitted under
  • Safety glazing not identified at hazardous locations (doors, sidelites, low sills, wet areas)
  • Delegated calcs missing, unsealed, or based on wind pressures that don't match the structural drawings
  • Shop drawing elevations that don't match architectural opening dimensions
  • Sealant submitted without compatibility/adhesion testing with the specified glass and finish
  • Finish sample skipped, then the delivered anodized color doesn't match adjacent work
