Plumbing Submittal Package Checklist

Project: __________________________

Submittal #: ____________________

Spec section(s): _________________

Date: __________________________

1 · Package document set

Every submittal package includes these, in this order.

  • Cover sheet — project, submittal number, spec section(s), date, and the submitting company
  • Transmittal — item list keyed to the schedule, with the reviewer/GC and the type (partial or full)
  • Table of contents / section dividers so the reviewer can navigate
  • Product data — manufacturer cut sheets marked to the exact model, options, and finish being furnished (strike what doesn't apply)
  • Shop drawings for anything fabricated or custom, matched to the drawings and schedules
  • Samples or physical mock-ups where the specification requires visual approval
  • Certifications & test reports the spec calls up (listings, ratings, compliance letters)
  • O&M data and warranties where required at this stage
  • Substitution request forms for any product not on the approved-manufacturer list

2 · Plumbing scope — by spec section

Pull a submittal for each section in your scope; confirm the spec's Part 1 list.

  • 22 05 23 — Valves: ball, check, balancing, with pressure class and end connections
  • 22 07 19 — Piping insulation: material, thickness by pipe size and service, jacket type
  • 22 11 16 / 22 13 16 — Domestic water and sanitary piping: pipe material, fittings, and joining method per service (copper, PEX, cast iron, PVC)
  • 22 33 00 / 22 34 00 — Water heaters: capacity, recovery rate, venting category, and clearances
  • 22 42 00 — Fixtures: every scheduled fixture with carrier, trim, faucet, and stop data
  • Specialties: backflow preventers, mixing valves, interceptors, floor drains, cleanouts

3 · Before you submit — common rejection reasons to rule out

Reviewers flag these first. Verify each is not an issue before you send.

  • Fixture model on the cut sheet doesn't match the scheduled tag, or trim is missing entirely
  • Pipe material substitution (PEX for copper, PVC for cast iron) without a substitution request
  • ADA fixtures submitted in the standard configuration
  • Water heater venting category or gas input that doesn't match the mechanical drawings
  • Insulation thickness below the energy-code minimum for the pipe size and service
  • Backflow preventer without the required approval listing for the jurisdiction
