What belongs in a lighting submittal package
Lighting sits in 26 51 00 (interior), 26 56 00 (exterior), and 26 09 23 / 26 09 43 for controls. The package should contain:
- A cut sheet for every type on the fixture schedule, in schedule order, tagged with the type letter
- Full catalog logic decoded: lumen output, CCT, CRI, voltage, driver type (0-10V, DALI, DMX), options, and finish
- Photometric data (IES files or summary tables) when the spec or designer requires it
- Emergency lighting: battery packs, inverters, or generator-transfer devices with runtime and listing data
- Poles and bases for exterior fixtures, with EPA and wind-load data
- Controls: occupancy/vacancy sensors, dimmers, relay panels, network devices, plus a sequence of operations and zoning plan where specified
Decode the catalog number completely
Most lighting rejections happen inside the catalog string. A modern LED fixture ordering code can run twenty characters — lumen package, distribution, CCT, voltage, driver, dimming protocol, options, finish — and the reviewer needs to see every position resolved. Submitting the family page with the ordering matrix untouched forces the reviewer to guess, and reviewers do not guess; they write 'Revise and Resubmit.' Mark the exact string being furnished, and confirm the dimming protocol matches the controls system on the drawings.
The review round-trip
Lighting packages typically pass through more hands than other trades: GC, electrical engineer, architect, and on design-forward jobs a lighting designer with strong opinions about substitutions. Expect the full review window and expect aesthetic comments, not just technical ones.
