The Submittal Builder is where you make a submittal by chatting with the AI.
What it is
You tell the Builder what you need in plain words. It finds products and cut sheets. It builds the submittal for you. Then you fix anything you want, by chat or by hand.
How to open it
- Click Submittal Builder in the left sidebar.
- Or go to /submittal-builder.
How the page is laid out
- Left side — the chat. Type here and read the Builder's replies.
- Right side — your submittal. You see the product list, pages, and PDF here.
- Top right — Tour (a quick guided tour), History (your past chats), and New submittal (start fresh).
Start a submittal
- Type what you want in the box at the bottom of the chat. For example: "Build a submittal for the Gibson House lobby fixtures."
- To add files, click Upload files, or drag files onto the box. You can add PDF, Excel, CSV, and image files.
- Press Enter to send. Press Shift+Enter to start a new line.
- The Builder may ask a question, like which project to use. Pick an answer to keep going.
- Click Stop if you want it to stop working.
Good ways to start
- Turn a quote into a submittal — drop a supplier quote PDF on the chat box.
- Start from the spec — attach a spec PDF. The Builder reads it and asks what to build.
- Build from your Library — use the products you already saved.
- Answer reviewer comments — upload a marked-up submittal. The Builder pulls out each comment.
The right side
The top bar shows the submittal number, its name, and its status. Click the name to rename it.
- Share — make a review link for others.
- View PDF — see the last PDF you made. It is grayed out until you make one.
- Generate PDF — make the PDF. When nothing has changed, the button reads PDF up to date and you can't click it. Make any change and it turns back on.
Under the top bar are view tabs:
- Sheet — the product list. See The Builder product card.
- Pages — all the pages in the package.
- Markups — notes and shapes on the cut sheets.
- Review — review comments and results.
Files you upload, like a spec or a drawing, also get their own tab.
Sometimes the Builder needs you to choose something. Then you see a Select, Fixtures, or Project tab. While that picker is open, the other view tabs are hidden. Finish the picker and they come back.
Common questions
Do I pick a mode, like Create or Review? No. Just say what you want. The Builder figures out the rest.
Why can't I click Generate PDF? Your PDF is already up to date. Change something, like a part number or a page, and the button turns back on.
Why is View PDF grayed out? You have not made a PDF yet. Click Generate PDF first.
Does making a PDF cost anything? The first PDF for a new submittal uses one package. Fixing it and making it again after that is free. New submittal starts a new one, so its first PDF uses another package.
Where did the Edit tab go? It was removed. Its tools now live in the product window. Click a product's part numbers to open it.
How do I find an old chat? Click History at the top right.
